Confused about what to eat? You aren’t alone. Half the people in a 2017 survey said that conflicting information about what to eat and what to avoid have them second guessing the food choices they make.
I have seen this confusion first hand. As a specialist in nutritional medicine, I’ve had patients come to my office sickened after years of eating a diet of the wrong foods; all have been helped after they implement changes to their diets. They often are amazed that given the right nutrients the body can heal itself. I have also witnessed many other people who think their diet is superior when it’s not. These folks tend to embrace whatever they hear, (low-fat, gluten-free, Keto, Paleo, Mediterranean) without really taking the time to investigate its veracity.
This is the reason I decided to write my own guide to the 100 Best Foods for Health and Longevity. I want to help those who are confused by our nation’s ever-shifting nutritional guidelines, and who just simply want a straight-forward list of the planet’s best foods. But, more than a roadmap to a more healthful diet, the 100 Best Foods outlines in short bursts why these particular foods are good for you and gives some simple, crowd-pleasing recipes that showcase some of the top foods.
Did you know…
I’ve included these and hundreds of other helpful bits of information that will encourage you to try some foods you never considered eating before. If you know this information you can begin to understand how choosing the right food can be protective.
To help you cut through the confusion over which foods are most beneficial, each one of the 100 foods I write about includes a short section called “What Makes It So Special?” There you will find solid information about research into each food and the benefits you’d get by eating it. Reading this section will shift your focus back to real food and its benefits. It’s not enough to know what to eat – after all everyone knows water is better for you than soda, but people will still drink soda --you have to understand why certain foods are better. Knowing this information will solidify your resolve to eat better and increase the likelihood that when you choose what to eat, you will do better. If you are a picky eater or know a person who is, this section will convince you that these nutrient-rich foods are worth trying!
I want you to be empowered by knowing how real food helps your body prevent illness, maintain a favorable weight, and enhance longevity. A nutrient-rich, plant-based diet, like my Nutritarian Diet, allows you to have more energy, reverses disease and slows the aging process. If you are overweight, eating the right diet can also help you lose weight by reducing appetite and removing food cravings and abnormal hunger signals, thereby making it less likely that you will overeat.
