I write bc I don’t want any poor soul to unknowingly walk into an office and leave 5 years later with serious harm. It can happen.
I cannot keep up with the counter- reviews Dr. Brener is
Penning himself in hopes of bumping up his stars .
In my opinion , he deserves none.

BEST REVIEW :
Read about his sanctions for boundary violations. That’s a review he cannot tamper with or pay to have removed like on Healthgrades .
In my opinion, ethics and morals are most important when looking for a psychiatrist . Without those the slope is steep and slippery on day one.
GOOGLE : Texas Medical Board DANIEL M Brener MD
It’s been watered down by his little attorney in hopes he will save face . Ask around for another referral , enough psych/ psychoanalysts in the community know about this so best of luck .

I've seen four psychiatrists in the last 10 years and he is by far the best Ive ever had. Many transforming and deeply enlightening experiences with him.

Was this provider's office clean?
Yes everything was neat and sterile
Did this provider seem up-to-date with the current advancements in their field?
No, they could have used some continuing education

In my and subsequent treaters opinion, I left Dr. Brener's office in far worse shape than when i came to him for help several years earlier.
The harm done to me was serious, and is a reflection of how dangerous psychoanalysis can be.

As a former patient and as a friend of other former patients of Dr. Brener's, I can no longer recommend Dr. Brener for either psychotherapy or medication In my opinion, Dr Brener failed in his responsibilities as a physician and a psychotherapist. Unfortunately, what could have been dealt with by another psychiatrist had a referral been given, or a simple consultation on his behalf sought, it is my opinion , with out a doubt, that I would have been spared years of anguish and depression. There are many senior and experienced clinicians to choose from; be good to yourself and continue your search.

Was a patient of this doctor. In my opinion Dr,Brener caused me great harm during the five years that I was supposedly in "psychoanalysis" with him. It was hell. The importance of boundaries are known to all psychotherapists. I will never understand why he failed to practice using good boundaries.
Would not recommend this doctor!

As I have recently learned, my questions regarding Dr. Brener's ethics have been answered. It's difficult to accept but I do NOW know that what I didn't want to think possible, questioned and felt uneasy with, has turned out to be true. Perhaps your safer if you're a man, I cannot say, but I would never allow my daughters, niece or sister go tto him. i went to him for help in my darkest hours. I was not whole, not thinking clearly, and in my opinion I was led into a dark whole of dependency , regression, and sheer confusion. In my opinion, there was a deliberate snub of professional boundaries on his part. The BEST advice to anyone who needs to see a psychotherapist or coach is to learn how vitally important professional boundaries are. If a therapist or physician does NOT appreciate their inherent value , chooses to ignore and disrespect any one of them, it is the patient who will suffer the harmful consequences. At best, you will not recieve the help you are seeking and paying for, or in less fortunate situations you could be further harmed and would need future ameliorative therapy to recover.

I am a former patient of this psychiatrist/psychoanalyst. On my word, i left in far worse shape than when I entered years earlier. Please do your research beyond what can be found on line. Ask other professionals in the field before entering into a relationship in which the power imbalance is great, and the patient is far more vulnerable than the psychoanalyst. . Good luck.

My experience with Daniel Michael Brener, MD was definitely the worst of my life. How odd to write that, bc isnt it true we go to psychotherapist or doctor to help us when we are hurting? To become better adjusted in life? I left his office worse off ...I ended up leaving after years of treatment with more problems than I had when I came. His ingratiating manner and his non-standard approach served only to create great confusion. Boundaries were not set which was very irresponsible and unprofessional of him. There were no purposeful goals. It was like a social hour. I resent this very much . It was all so wrong and unfair to have been misguided and betrayed.
I hope my experience will cause you to "re-think" returning to or ever seeing Daniel Brener .
Good, well-adjusted, ethical psychotherapists do not practice this way.

As a former patient of Dan Brener, I remain committed to sharing my opinion. After 3 years of follow-up care ( post-termination Dan Brener, MD ) by the most highly respected psychiatrists/analysts in Houston, it is my opinion that you will be best served by getting a second opinion re your treament if you are currently a patient of Dan Brener's , or if seeking a psychotherapist, to pass his name up. Nothing (ZERO) good came out of my relationship with Daniel Brener, M. D.! Those years wreaked havoc in marital, family and financial world.
Unfortunately, it is becoming more prevalent in today's world that greed is at the wheel. Sadly, greed and self service has driven some professionals into the gutter . In addition to this situation and others, , fellow psychoanalysts/ mds aware of their colleagues serious transgressions , are reluctant to report due to backlash . Unfortunately, politics, self -interest, long standing allegiances, professional associations ( i.e. Center for Psychoanalytic Studies ( Houston) , Houston Psychoanalytic Society, CAPS ( Center for Advancement for Psychoanalytic Studies) and blatant denial allow such misfits to mislead and harm innocent and vulnerable victims.
Mental illness is painful. There are excellent psychotherapists here in Houston. Go about your search, and involve others in your search as well.
Sadly, there is no "place" to find the good vs the bads. You have to do the work . "Nice and 24 hour availability of a psychotherapist" may look good, but it can be a red flag for dangerously poor boundaries. I learned the hard way and the ramifications of abuse will be with me and my family forever. Moving ahead thanks to hard work with ETHICAL therapists. Keep on your search and I wish you the best in your pursuit for happiness and balance.
