My professional life spans more than 35 years as an experienced helping professional. I have incorporated into my practice the expertise I developed as Presbyterian minister, psychotherapist, medical social worker and whole health educator. Presently, I have a private practice in individual, marriage/family and group psychotherapy, along with a health education program for chronic (medically) ill and a public seminar program.
People who seek my help find a competent and caring guide, as I provide them a safe and open setting/environment where they can learn to deal with difficult problems. It is very important to be present with a client as they struggle with scary and uncertain areas of their fractured life. I bring valuable tools to each session: my personal growth, education and training, access to community resources, and knowledge of current psychological issues. I meet the client in the moment of their suffering with the most precious gift – attention and compassion.
ServicesMy intent in all facets of my work is to promptly help clients address their problem, find relevant solutions/resources, and discover their deep strengths — a full measure of energy and renewed hope – so they may venture out on their healing journey.
My journey as a helping professional has allowed me the time to integrate my education, training/supervision and professional experience as I sync my skills and expertise with the client’s needs. I help clients make significant change at a deep level of self-understanding. As well as years of practice in psychotherapy and health education, I have worked in a variety of settings in Arkansas and Texas including acute care hospitals, home health systems, and out-patient psychiatric clinics. I have worked as a medical social worker and counselor for 12 years in hospice to help dying people and their families move through this with dignity, courage and hope.
My own struggle with a chronic illness not only introduced me to healthy, natural approaches, but also opened my heart to others’ struggles. From this experience and study in lifestyle changes (diet, exercise and relaxation/meditation), I have developed a practical model to help chronically ill people transform their problems into tools of personal empowerment.
