"When I was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer I was given little guidance and little hope. My daughter contacted ICAN, (International Cancer Advocacy Network) and they referred me to Dr. Vamsidhar Velcheti at NYU Langone for a second opinion (a quick Google search showed I had been referred to the best). After receiving my medical records, Dr. Velcheti teleconferenced with me several times (realize, this is during the pandemic and I'm 300 miles away). From day one Dr. Velcheti conveyed compassion and optimism along with an unparalleled expertise of my disease. Before I knew it I was on a 300 mile road trip to New York City for a procedure that I believe has changed my prognosis and given me an optimistic outlook for my future. Dr. Velcheti is coordinating with my local oncologists and they are pleased for his advice and recommendations, which have become part of my care plan. I am so thankful that my family pushed me to get a second opinion, and I am so grateful I was referred to an oncologist with the expertise, compassion and knowledge of Dr. Vamsidhar Velcheti.
