After visiting a cataract specialist in Covington, I was referred to Dr. Mary Hood for a scleral contact lens consultation. Even though I have had many consultations in reference to a fluctuating vision problem in my left eye, a side effect of RK surgery many years ago, I had never heard of such a lens. When I questioned this, my doctor stated that most doctors neither have the expertise nor want to take the time it requires to fit scleral lenses. He said he knew of one optometrist in Metairie that works with scleral lenses, Dr. Mary Hood.
During my initial consultation, Dr. Hood explained about the specialty lens. She felt I would be a good candidate, so she went to work. I am amazed at the results. I can finally see clearly with no fluctuation for the first time in over 30 years! I can’t thank her enough for her patience and expertise. I can see why other doctors don’t want to “fool” with them, as it took several visits, fittings, calculations and more calculations, as well as lots of patience and extra time (on her part) that I had not experienced with all of the other doctors I had been to over the 30+ years I have been dealing with this problem.
I can count on less than one hand the number of letters I have written praising medical professionals I have seen. This one was a must! If you have come to see Dr. Hood, you are with the most patient and knowledgeable optometrist you could have chosen.
Dr. Hood, I actually can’t thank you enough for your patience and expertise in handling my case. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
