Burgess is AMAZING hands down. I have known him since 1984 when we first moved to Sitka. We were able to keep our furbabies healthy, happy and still manage to survive since he didn't charge us an arm and a leg. He does a lot of Pro-bono work, and he is well loved by all the community and surrounding villages who bring in their pets for check-ups or surgeries. I love the guy and my furbabies.

Burgess Bauder saved my cat's life by operating right on top of his home dishwasher! That's right! My Siamese cat, Pywackit, had somehow swallowed a thread with a needle attached, and Burgess, after taking him to the hospital for an X-Ray (this was 40 years ago, and he didn't have an X-Ray machine in his office), he successfully operated and removed the needle. The next day I noticed that Pywackit wasn't eating or drinking, but his tummy area looked full and bloated. Since it was Sunday and the office was closed, when I called him at home, Burgess said to bring the cat to his house. After a short examination, his diagnosis was that there was possibly a blockage of some sort in the intestinal tract. The bottom line was: if we operate it may kill him, but if we don't operate he is going to die... After thoroughly cleaning off the top of his portable dishwasher, and covering it with clean white cloth, he proceeded to open up Py's abdomen and carefully trace his entire intestinal tract without finding anything of a solid nature.
After he was stitched up and semi-awake, I took him home with instruction to just keep him warm and watch him through the night. The next morning, Pywackit was up and about, eating and drinking like normal!

In my opinion, Burgess is the best veterinarian I have ever visited, and I have had lots of cats and dogs over the past forty years since moving away from Sitka. He certainly gets my vote of confidence and a large chunk of admiration as well. Thanks, Burgess!

Burgess is a no-nonsense DVM that has treated a great amount of the pet population in our little community. I will always take my furry friends to Burgess when I am in Sitka.
