In my opinion, Gene Atkinson is old and washed up who should no longer be in practice. He was unethical in a visit with him in which I now wish I had of turned him into (DOPL) Utah Division of Occupational Professional Licensing for his unethical behavior telling me if I "got religion" all my "problems in life would be solved" (I wasn't there to discuss religion) and he went on to insult my looks as he got in my face and told me I was ugly (like his secretary at the front desk) trying to get under my skin. Atkinson also VIOLATED Hippa laws by divulging a TON of information to me about two other patients of his, one of which I was related to. When I told that patient what I learned about them through Atkinson, that person considered taking legal action against him but then decided Atkinson was a washed up old man who wasn't worth their time or effort. Along with his poor disposition and mind games he plays, his office is so run down with 1950's furniture, carpeting, old wall paneling that smells extremely musty. The walls are so thin, he plays music to try to drown out what can be heard behind closed doors. On top of it all, I arrived on time only to have to wait an additional 1/2 hr as Atkinson was on a personal phone call with someone who was part of his religious faith regarding a business matter in his Ward (in which I could hear every word being said) as I sat in the waiting room a half hour late due to him conducting personal business on My time. I advise you to go elsewhere... as in my opinion, Gene Atkinson has a very nasty rude side and is nothing more than a "has been" and is long overdue for retirement.

Dr Atkinson was instrumental in helping my son that had drowned and had PTSD residual. He is an amazing man that connected with myself along with my 18 yr old son. I will forever be grateful for his service to my family!

I have seen a few different counselors in my life, and for one with so much experience and education, he really related well, and knew how to talk with us to gain understanding and build trust. I really appreciated his specific councel and discussion for us. We accomplished more in oir first one hour session, than I have in seven hour sessions with a counselor I used to see.

I very much appreciated our time with him, and will recommend him in the future.

Today was the first meeting with Dr Gene Atkinson.
But we talked in great length about my issues, and I also got know about him and his experiences as a counselor.
So far I am impressed with him and we have a lot of work to do.

He was knowledgeable and sincerely wanted to help. He did give us good information. However, we went in for marriage counseling and I learned early on in my marriage that there is not a lot of truth I could say regarding my wife without being in big trouble. I wish he would have sensed that maybe taking each person alone would be helpful to get the needed information. I do realize, however, that he may have felt that eventually you have to say things in front of each other or you will go not get anywhere anyway.
