Dr. Stout is an excellent veterinarian. He is extremely knowledgeable; is willing to go the extra mile for you to figure out what is happening with your pet; compassionate; and his fees are very reasonable. What else could you ask for? He provided veterinary care for our basset hound rescue and worked with us to ensure we could afford treatment for the rescued hounds. As an owner of three basset hounds myself he has treated them for several years. I had just adopted a rescue hound when her eyes began to swell and completely close off, the additional eyelid they have had completely covered her eyes so you couldn't see her eyes at all, She was also drooling and lethargic. I took her to the ER and they claimed it was cherry eye and charged me several hundred dollars and sent her home even though I told them I had experience with cherry eye and this was not it. Over the night, her condition deteriorated so I took her to a vet in Bakersfield. They believed she had a possible brain tumor impacting the optical nerves and said they could only give her IV fluids because she would first need an MRI and other intensive possible diagnostic procedures and treatment totaling over $5,000. I decided to take her to Dr. Stout even though his office is about 40 minutes from my home. He immediately diagnosed it as an allergic reaction to a chemical. He said he couldn't be positive but it appeared to be similar to reactions he had seen in dogs who are in the fields and get sprayed with insecticide. Long story short, after a $5.00 prescription of prednisone she was back to normal in about 12 hours! It is that type of experience gained over years of treating animals that Dr. Stout offers. He said "well, it could be something exotic or rare such as a brain tumor, but most likely it is something more realistic such as her being way too nosy and getting into something she shouldn't have!" Which of course is classic basset behavior!

Dr. Stout treated our almost 13 year old basset hound who we absolutely adored for many years. Waldo had a Cushing's-like illness that didn't fit the normal diagnosis and we had taken him to UC Davis and other vets with no luck. I started doing research and found a protocol from the University of Tennessee Veterinary School, and he was willing to read all the research and protocols and to treat Waldo per their recommendation. This is very unusual in my experience since many vets will not work outside of their normal protocols or comfort zones.

We just lost our beloved Waldo last week and Dr. Stout and his staff were absolutely wonderful to us during the entire ordeal. They were compassionate and understanding. Dr. Stout was especially kind to my son who had been with Waldo just about everyday for the past 13 years and Waldo was truly his best friend. Dr. Stout took hair clippings of various areas of Waldo's body for my son to keep and then did a plaster cast of one of his paws.

This was extremely thoughtful and made a very heart wrenching situation easier for us.

Dr. Stout's office has a 1980's era computer, and few bells and whistles, but this keeps his fees down and adds to the charm. I prefer his focus be on substantive issues such as being up-to-date on treatment and surgical procedures; listening to the pet owner and the pet; and doing all of this at an affordable rate.

Definitely 5 stars for Dr. Stout and Delano Veterinary Hospital!!

I love that they are always more than happy to answer my questions, and actually welcome questions. I've felt awkward at some other places I've visited when I've tried to ask a lot of questions, but not here. They would never suggest that I buy something that wasn't necessary, and never pressured me. They were always very considerate and professional. The staff here goes above and beyond to make my pet and me feel at home. They are the friendliest people!
