My dog is currently in the ER due to an anaphylactic reaction to the Proheart12 heartworm injection. I was given no warnings whatsoever from the Decatur veterinary staff that there were any risks involved with giving this injection. Additionally, they did not give me the Client Information Sheet, which would have informed me of the risks involved. Following the injection, my dog immediately started showing symptoms of a severe anaphylactic reaction. I took him to the local emergency veterinary clinic for further evaluation and treatment. After arriving at the emergency veterinary clinic, the Decatur clinic failed to forward the list of medication/vaccines given to my dog. Only after calling them directly the next day did I receive any documentation for the medications administered to my dog.

After a 5 minute google search, I found the client data sheet for the Proheart12 heartworm injection, where the number 1 warning is that an anaphylactic reaction is likely and highly possible (different adverse symptoms were seen in over 25% of dogs in a study of 593 dogs with several dogs experiencing severe reactions of which some lead to death).

This is straight negligence on the part of the Decatur veterinary clinic to fail to inform customers of the risks involved with the medicine they administer. They did have friendly staff, but overall need to seriously improve their veterinary practice. I will say that they haven’t contacted me to charge me for anything. However, at the same time they have also failed to reach out once since taking my dog to the ER.

Yes, they called right on time

No, but there was a little grass outside the office so it was fine

Excellent

I am so impressed by this office! I have to say that I had an emergency and was able to get ahold of Dr. Goerdel at almost midnight. He offered to meet me up at the clinic and assist however he could. I walked in the following morning(New Years Eve) He scheduled my dogs surgery for the next day. He was very thorough in discussing all of my options and even called me right before the procedure began. He genuinely cares about his animals! I will never use another vet again! When I picked my girl up the following day detailed directions were given to me for her post op care. When we got home she seemed to still be uncomfortable so I called the office and they informed me that they could provide her with a stonger pain medication. Even though they have an in house pharmacy Dr. Woller agreed to call her in a prescription to my local pharmacy since I live about 45 minutes from their office! I would highly recommend this office to anyone! Thank you Dr. Goerdel and your team from the bottom of my heart!!!
