I am always looking for the best in the field to recommend to others, and I did not find that here. I will never return, nor recommend them to anyone I know based on my experience. This physician does not return phone calls, is condescending to patients and has, quite possibly, the WORST. BEDSIDE MANNER. EVER.

They didn't display their qualifications. It made me nervous. They barely gave me any information at all. I'm going to have to do my own research to get my questions answered. I was very surprised that they didn't want to answer my questions at all. In fact, they just ignored all of my questions. They definitely weren't easy to reach in an emergency. I was forced to call the emergency room in the middle of the night and was really scared. I showed up on time for my appointment but they weren't even there yet. I had to wait quite a while for them and my entire day's schedule was messed up. Staff was not friendly, the girl at the front desk ignored me and had me shout all my personal information from the window, never gave me any forms to fill out.

I went to see Dr. Jose Alvarez for the first time today to confirm my pregnancy, as my insurance requires this to be able to get a referral to seek prenatal care. When the doctor came in to see me, he didn't introduce himself, and didn't acknowledge my husband who was in there with me. He asked me “Do you know that you are obese?”, as if I was supposed to reply, “No, I did not!” He mocked me when he couldn’t find the address to my pharmacy, even after repeating the address twice. So when I compromise and tell him to send it to whatever address he had for my pharmacy and that I would pick up my prescriptions and transfer them, he said he would send them to Miami. I didn’t think that was funny at all. He failed to confirm my pregnancy, he failed to ask if I was even taking prenatal vitamins, he failed to give me a referral to see a prenatal doctor. He even failed to let me know that I should start eating better, even though he was so concerned about my obesity. They charged me my copay, and want to charge me again in four weeks, which by that point would make me 10 weeks pregnant and still not under prenatal care. I left in tears as he was basically setting me up for a miscarriage. I called the office back and asked if they give pregnancy tests there. The nurse said yes. I asked why I didn’t receive a referral to a prenatal doctor. I was then put on hold for about 5 minutes; I am sure to call the doctor to ask him. The line rang back she said that he forgot to give me a referral, but that I could go ahead pick a doctor and they would send the referral to the insurance company. They never even tested my urine to see if I was pregnant, but they are going to go ahead and refer me? Apparently they are psychic and don’t need to test for the hCG hormone to determine gestation like other doctors do. I will be calling my insurance company to file a complaint, and to report his bedside manner as he had the audacity to ask me why I was having another child with my husband. I will be getting the care I need through a different provider, as Dr. Alvarez seems tired, aloof, and quite past his prime as a physician, forgetting to first, “do no harm”…

They were friendly and gracious the entire appointment and made me feel at home. They are completely committed to helping me as long as it takes to find the best solution. I never have to worry that they'll back out or give up if a solution isn't reached immediately, which has been a problem for me at other places. They made the extra effort to make sure every question and concern I had was addressed. I've been places before where they were argumentative and angry, so I was nervous that I would encounter that here as well. Instead, they were very calm and understanding the entire time. I could tell they really care about everyone who visits them.
