Dr. Lahr's office wasn't the newest or most modern, certainly not comfortable, but tolerable and not much below par for the course. While the receptionist was a bit rude, the rest of his office staff was fine, and Chris, the woman who handles making appointments and insurance (and it would seem most everything) was incredibly kind and went above and beyond in dealing with my insurance company. That was the sole bright spot in an otherwise horrendous experience. Dr. Lahr is a world class a**, with no bedside manner, and a very abrasive personality. A 30-minute wait was my usual, which wasn't bad, but then the doctor would only spend about 5 minutes if that in the room. His favorite quote is 'I don't need to see you again until your surgery.' Didn't answer my questions, didn't explain the procedure, was arrogant as all get out, and most importantly didn't handle my pain at all pre-op, and very poorly post-op. Big surprise: he was put on probation in Maryland and DC for berating and hitting a surgical assistant at Shady Grove hospital (See: sanctions at healthgrades.com). Unless you someone who likes being dicked around and talked down to, I would steer clear. Again, the office staff seemed fine and if he had a better personality and bedside manner, Dr. Lahr might be more tolerable.

I previously went to a podiatrist who had attempted to give me a bunionectomy, which resulted in a torn toe tendon, which he had not been able to repair on two occasions. Dr. Lahr redid the surgery, reattached the tendon, and was very forthright in informing me what the previous doctor had not done correctly. I have never had a problem with this foot since Dr. Lahr operated on it. The office staff is attentive and respond to all of your questions. His office is always filled, and there is a wait. I have recommended him to other people in need of foot and ankle surgery.

Having been referred to Dr. Lahr, my first concern was: Is he going to fix my ankle, or am I going to get the run around again like I did with the previous Ortho I went to.

I called the office and the staff took their time with me to make sure I was comfortable making the appointment with Dr. Lahr. Even when I started having doubts a few days prior to my appointment I called the office again, and the office staff was able to reassure me and made me feel even more comfortable coming in for the first time. Wait time to be called back into the room was minimal as was the time to wait for Dr. Lahr to come into my examining room.

Once Dr. Lahr came in, he was very up front, professional, and to the point with a "as a matter of fact attitude"! There is no scooting around the totem pole with this doctor... I liked him immediately!
He offered surgery, I took him up on it, and then provided me with all the answers / photos / and copy of the event in writing for my records. At my first post surgery appointment, he made sure he went over everything that happened and that I understood all procedures.

Dr. Lahr's male assistant has a great bed side manner as well.... I was so nervous getting my staples out that I told him I might start crying, he kept my mind off him taking the staples out, by keeping me talking about other topics. He answered all my questions I had and before you know it.. they were out and I was getting my new cast!

Those people who state that this doctor is terrible. I will be the one to tell them to their face they are just jealous of his knowledge and are trying to keep people from visiting him. If you need a GREAT Ortho Doctor... I Highly Recommend This Man!
