While walking along the treacherous Orlando sidewalk my toe got caught in a crevice. Suddenly, yet in slow motion, I saw myself falling on my face without my arms prepared to brace me. To my surprise I felt myself pulling up and away from the sidewalk and not crashing down on it. After several yards I was upright and strolling down the street as if nothing had happened. I am 66 years old and have been working with Matthew Comer at Matthew Comer Pilates twice a week for two years. He is unique in his ability to tailor your workout to meet your age appropriate needs, and to work around any injuries or weaknesses, without compromising your progress. I have achieved remarkable core strength, flexibility and balance, so important to healthy and active aging. When I leave there I feel 9 feet tall. And, it has also improved my golf.
Before I discovered the Pilates Method. I had wasted hundreds of dollars in searching for some form of exercise that would strengthen my right leg after hip replacement surgery. I now know that I will practice this for the rest of my life; that is how much I love it. No matter how sluggish or ill I might feel when I begin my program, which is three times per week, I ALWAYS feel worlds better when I am finished. What I really live about this program of training is the movement and coordination that it uses; I feel like my whole body is involved. I also love the stretching that is incorporated. My overall strength has improved enormously. My sisters wondered, and asked, what I had been doing; they said I looked so different, so relaxed, trimmer and taller. My husband says I am putting him to shame!
Matthew Comer was very committed to making my workouts successful, physically challenging and fun. She was always very creative in my routines leaving no room for dullness or monotony. He put great effort into monitoring each muscle movement to make sure that my workout was done properly and safely. Excellent instructors & challenging workouts!! I've been practicing Pilates for 14 months and came to Matthew Comer Pilates about 6 months ago to expand my Pilates knowledge and keep challenging my workouts. I've definitely found that! Every class I learn some small subtlety to an exercise which engages my deeper, harder to target muscles. As a result, I have gained more strength, stability, and flexibility. In addition to learning from great instructors, the environment is wonderful, the studio is always clean and I never have an issue with parking.
