Dr. Leslie A Stewart was the 3rd dermatologist that I saw for my contact dermatitis which was mostly on my hands, but was starting to crop up on my arms, legs and torso. The itching was sever, and the skin was getting very red, peeling and starting to swell on my hands. The other two Drs. gave me steroid ointments that helped, but that didn’t get to the root cause.
Dr. Stewart did skin allergy tests, and found that I had sensitivity to latex, nickel and blue dye. She had me get rid of blue in my clothing, even my blue jeans that I lived in. She suggested that I get a nickel test kit and we began to hunt for metals that I came into contact with on a frequent basis like cell phone, refrigerator handle, scissors etc. Since I had worked in hospitals for 46 years, I had already become aware of the latex allergy.
Dr. Stewart was like a determined detective. She gave clear instructions in how the use of the medication; and suggestions regarding protecting my very sensitive skin, such as using cotton gloves under my gardening gloves and during house-cleaning chores.
My hands are no longer red and itchy, and I now have some useful knowledge to keep on top of my skin allergies.
I have been seeing Dr. Stewart for more than 5 years now, and I have referred many of my friends, as well as my family to her. She and her staff are responsive and attentive. At each visit, Dr. Stewart spends a lot of time with me to listen to my questions and needs. Not only is she kind and caring, she is an excellent clinician. I always leave her office feeling as if my concerns have been addressed, and I know I am in good hands.
Had to wait a month to get in. Was referred to Dr. Stewart by a friend who described her as warm, caring, and thorough. She was warm (called me Sweetie - not professional). rushed, not a good listener, gave me brochures to answer my questions, didn't even say good-bye or express appreciation for my coming to see her. Said if my skin didn't clear up in a month to come see her again. Won't be back. She did not thoroughly examine me as I had requested (and waited a month for). After the flurry of our conversation, I was left sitting in the patient room, wondering what I should do. No one returned. Had to ask receptionist for the medication at the front desk, which she knew nothing about. The MA was sitting in a back office chatting with someone else and hadn't followed up to bring me the medication. Paid over $300 for a poorly executed, incomplete, dissatisfying 15 minute consultation.
