Dr. Cruz was born in Honduras and raised in Houston, Texas, by Spanish-speaking immigrants in a working-class home. Growing up, she recognized a need for Spanish-speaking women physicians in her community, which inspired her to pursue a career in medicine. She currently lives in San Antonio, where she enjoys being outdoors and spending quality time with friends and family.
