Monica Kasbekar, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Columbia Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in the division of Hematology/Oncology and a member of the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. Kasbekar’s clinical practice focuses on the treatment of hematologic malignancies, including acute and chronic leukemias, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and myelodysplastic syndrome. Her research aims to understand how aging and inflammation contribute to the development of blood cancers. Dr. Kasbekar received her MD from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine, and her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cambridge as a National Institutes of Health-Oxford-Cambridge Scholar. She completed her Internal Medicine residency training at Massachusetts General Hospital and her Medical Oncology fellowship at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where she served as Chief Fellow. Dr. Kasbekar is the recipient of multiple national and international awards including the EvansMDS Young Investigator Award, the American Society of Hematology Research Training Award for Fellows, the NCATS Director’s Award for Scientific/Medical Achievement, and the NIH Fellows Award for Research Excellence.
