He received his Bachelor of Science from Baylor University while majoring in Chemistry with minors in Mathematics, Biology, and Medical Humanities. He completed his medical degree at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth before completing his residency in Urology at Michigan State University at the Detroit Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He is a Fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons. Dr Ylitalo is board certified in Urology by the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery.
