Dr Adrienne Showler is Section Chief of Tropical Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital. She cares for travelers who return sick with diseases like malaria, dengue, Zika, typhoid, and various parasites. She also treats neglected tropical diseases such as Chagas, leishmaniasis, echinococcus, filariasis, leprosy, and strongyloides. Dr Showler leads the travel medicine program, helping travelers with special health needs, like pregnancy or weak immune systems. She trained in infectious diseases in Canada, earned a tropical medicine diploma in Peru, and holds a master’s from Johns Hopkins.
