Dr. Johnson has been performing bariatric surgery for over 20 years, and he has done over 3,500 weight-loss procedures. He grew up in Florida and South Carolina, and attended medical school at the Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his general surgery residency and was named Chief Resident in Surgery at the University of Florida.
He then completed a fellowship at Duke University specializing in Bariatric Surgery and advanced laparoscopy. He was on staff at Duke University Hospital. He moved to Atlanta in 2006 when he joined Atlanta Bariatrics. Dr. Johnson is certified through the National Board of Medical Examiners, and is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery. He has been recognized as a Center of Excellence surgeon by the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) since 2007.
Dr. Johnson has been named one of America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumers Research Council of America. He is a member of many national medical and surgical societies including the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the American Medical Association, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS).
