Dr. Bassam Yaghmour is a board-certified UCI Health pulmonologist and critical care physician who specializes in managing advanced pulmonary vascular disease and targeted vasodilator treatment for pulmonary hypertension.
His clinical interests include pulmonary arterial hypertension, pulmonary hypertension in advanced lung and heart disease, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary hypertension in renal failure, sarcoidosis and high-risk pulmonary embolism. He also uses echocardiography to assess, monitor and provide personalized therapy to patients with pulmonary hypertension.
Yaghmour earned his medical degree at the University of Aleppo Faculty of Medicine in Aleppo, Syria, followed by an internal medicine residency at Henry Ford Hospital and Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich. He then completed a fellowship in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis.
His research focus includes the design and execution of clinical trials to test approaches for managing this disease. He also studies exercise-induced pulmonary hypertension, as well as novel techniques and treatment options for pulmonary arterial hypertension. Through bench-to-bedside research and technical excellence, he seeks to improve the diagnosis and treatment of patients with pulmonary hypertension and heart failure. His goal is to heal the body as well as mind and spirit.
