Dr. Larsen is a Professor, Division of Pediatric Critical Care at the University of Utah; Medical Director for Patient Safety at Intermountain Primary Children"s Hospital, co-chair of Intermountain Pediatric Sepsis Program and Primary Children"s Hospital Medication Safety Team. Dr. Larsen has developed a local and national recognition for her work in the field of patient safety since 2001. She has published articles focused on patient adverse events detection representing both local and national experience, the use of “smart” infusion pumps and standard drug concentrations, the culture of safety, ventilator-associated conditions, and early septic shock recognition and treatment. She has been recognized by the Institute of Safe Medication Practices and by the Pediatric Pharmacy Advocacy Group for projects improving medication safety, and was an invited speaker for the American Academy of Pediatrics 2011 and 2013 National Conference on medication safety. She began working on pediatric septic shock recognition in 2007 and has published quality improvement articles on the benefits of early septic shock recognition and treatment since then; including one of the first pediatric emergency department based projects (Pediatrics). She has been involved with Children"s Hospital Association (CHA) Improving Pediatric Sepsis Outcome (IPSO) since 2016 and is a member of the steering committee and co-lead of the interventions group. In addition, Dr. Larsen has a full time critical care practice.
