A Harvard medical school mentor introduced Dr Beary to the importance of immunology in understanding and treating chronic inflammatory diseases, leading him to choose rheumatology as his specialty. With more than 40 years of experience in clinical rheumatology, education and research, Dr Beary sees adults for joint diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, gout, psoriatic arthritis, inflammatory spondylitis and osteoarthritis of the knee and hip. He has worked extensively on many clinical trials, testing new medicines and helping to standardize testing procedures internationally. His most recent research project involves a large multicenter study that will lead to new clinical guidelines for gout treatment.
