Jacob Rand

Dr. Rand serves as Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College with a corresponding appointment as Attending Pathologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell. He also serves as the Vice Chairman for Laboratory Medicine and Director of the Clinical Laboratories. Dr. Rand is an internationally recognized hematologist with significant clinical expertise in benign hematology and blood coagulation and has had special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of the Antiphospholipid Syndrome. He received his Medical Degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Subsequently, he completed a year of residency training in Pathology at Montefiore Hospital. He then relocated to Mount Sinai Hospital where he completed two years of residency training in Medicine. He returned to Montefiore Hospital to pursue a fellowship in Hematology, followed by post-doctoral training as an American Heart Association Clinician-Scientist at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Mount Sinai Medical Center.He was subsequently appointed Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1981, was promoted to Associate Professor in 1988 and to Professor of Medicine in 1994 with a secondary appointment as Professor of Pathology. Dr. Rand was appointed Director, Thrombosis and Hemostasis Section of Hematology Division at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1999. So, during much of this time, his clinical activities involved direct patient care as a Hematologist, direction of Hematology and Coagulation testing as a clinical laboratorian, and directing his extramurally funded research program. In 2003, Dr. Rand was recruited to the Albert Einstein College of Medicine where he was appointed Professor of Pathology, with secondary appointments in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Women’s Health. There, he has served as Director of the Hematology, Advanced Coagulation, and Protein Separation Laboratories. He has maintained Adjunct Professorships at Mount Sinai and at Albert Einstein.He has published almost 90 papers in the peer-reviewed medical and scientific literature, in the majority of which he has served as first or senior author. He has also contributed another 50 textbook chapters and review articles. Dr. Rand has served as an ad-hoc reviewer for more than 20 medical and scientific journals.
