WARNING- You cannot see this doctor unless you are established at Providence with a primary doctor that refers! So this review isn't about Dr Smith as a doctor - this review is about Providence Medical and its staff.
My 6-year-old son had a referral to Dr. Smith from his concierge doctor and a supportive letter from his SLP, but due to the administrative back and forth he isn't able to see this specialist.
After more than 7 hours on the phone over 3 days of calling everyone from MyChart support to the new patient line to Dr. Smith's direct office, I was able to (finally!) establish an account for my son. It was one of the most paintfully administratively burdensome experiences. But I'd do anything for my kid, so I felt it was worth the 2+ hr hold times and multiple transfers.
With this account, I was told I could make an appt. However, by another person, I was then told his referral wasn't attached to the account and it was lost. I called back and got another person who told me that the account was active, but lacked a primary doctor. I explained I had one and had a referral to see this specialist. She told me I had to physically bring it to his doctor's office and then I could get an appt. So I drove 45 mins (one way) to his office to drop it off. I did this (in the rain) only to be told that since his account had no primary doctor in their network, Dr Smith couldn't see an "outside" patient.
So a specialist doesn't take referrals? This is a FIRST for me. I go to Providence for my mammograms and I don't have a primary there. I've had heart surgery at Stanford (as a referral!) Something is clearly broken at this hospital and their staff is uneducated on the patient process. I'm sad since I thought Dr Smith would have been able to support my son's development, but clearly, Providence prides itself on medical exclusivity over actually helping people.
