Elizabeth Shane, M.D. is Emerita Professor of Medicine and Special Lecturer in Medicine at Columbia University, Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. She also serves as Director of the Musculoskeletal and Body Composition Imaging Core Facility of the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City. Dr. Shane is a senior clinician-scientist with more than 30 years of continuous NIH funding for the investigation of osteoporosis and other metabolic bone diseases. Dr. Shane received her undergraduate training at Dalhousie University and her medical degree from the University of Toronto in Canada. She completed her medical internship at the Toronto General Hospital and her medical residency on the Medical Service of Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. She did her training in Endocrinology and Metabolism at the College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Presbyterian Hospital in New York. She served as Vice Chair of the Department of Medicine for Clinical and Epidemiological Research from 2010 to 2017 and Senior Associate Dean for Student Research from 2015 to 2022.
