I was born in Pennsylvania, but I was partially raised in Germany, Holland, and Virginia. I still speak Dutch fluently. I attended Harvard University for my undergraduate degree, majoring in Chemistry, then received my medical degree from Columbia University, and did my Neurosurgery Residency in Boston at Tufts New England Medical Center. After that, I came to Raleigh to start my practice with Raleigh Neurosurgical Clinic. I worked there for 20 years and then founded Rex Neurosurgery with Drs. Robert Lacin and Grant Buttram. I have a general neurosurgical practice, enjoying both brain surgery and spine surgery. My main focus has always been operating and taking care of patients. I am married and have a 25-year-old daughter. In my spare time, I love playing chess, participating in The Porsche Club, solving jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, hiking, and traveling.
