John Vaccaro
John J. Vaccaro, MD, FAAN is a member of Summit Health’s Neurology and Neurosciences team. Dr. Vaccaro specializes in disorders of the brain, including stroke, headache, Parkinson’s Disease, Alzheimer’s dementia, and epilepsy. He also has expertise in disorders of the peripheral nervous system, including neuromuscular disorders, peripheral neuropathy, and neck / low back pain. He specializes in electromyography (EMG), nerve conduction velocity (NCV) testing, and Botox.
Dr. Vaccaro says, "I became a neurologist because I found the nervous system fascinating. For example," he says, "although the brain comprises only 2% of body weight, it uses 20% of the energy of the body." Dr. Vaccaro is committed to building professional relationships with his patients that are based on personalized, high quality care.
In addition to his position at Summit Health, Dr. Vaccaro serves as Chief of Neurology at Hackensack University Medical Center (HUMC) Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, New Jersey and holds the role of Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and a member of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, Neurological Association of New Jersey, and American Medical Association.
Dr. Vaccaro has been featured annually in New Jersey Monthly “Top Doctor” listings.
When he is not working with his patients, Dr. Vaccaro enjoys spending time with his wife, three children, and the family Labrador retriever. He also enjoys coaching his son in baseball, hiking, exercising, reading, and going to the theater.
