Jose D. Ibarbia, MD, specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation, including general, nonsurgical management of musculoskeletal and sports-related deficits as well as neuromuscular impairments and impairments from cancer and cancer treatments. His expertise includes the treatment of back pain, neck pain, joint pain and problems associated with weakness. He performs electrodiagnostic testing/evaluation and interventional procedures for the spine, joints and nerves.
Dr. Ibarbia began practicing with New Jersey Physicians in 2012, after completing his fellowship in cancer rehabilitation at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. He says, “My goal is to minimize physical impairment and maximize function so that my patients can return to their activities.” Fluent in Spanish, he welcomes patients from all communities and backgrounds.
Dr. Ibarbia has delivered local and regional invited presentations in his field. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Association of Academic Physiatrists and the New York Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
A leader in his field and among his colleagues, Dr. Ibarbia is a recipient of the New York – Presbyterian Hospital / Columbia University Medical Center / Weill Cornell Medical Center Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Peer Recognition Award for Exemplary Service and Leadership and the New York – Presbyterian Hospital / Weill Cornell Medical Center Shining Star Recognition Award.
When he is not working with his patients, Dr. Ibarbia enjoys spending time with his family, dining out, fitness training, and following professional football, baseball, mixed martial arts, and tennis.
