Dr. Matthew G. Clarke is a double fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in orthopedic traumatology and sports medicine. Born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica, Dr. Clarke began his academic career at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in only two years. He was then selected to be one of fifteen students granted entry into Dartmouth College and Brown University?s combined medical program, where he obtained multiple class honors and earned his medical degree in 2004. Dr. Clarke later completed his orthopedic surgical residency at Howard University in Washington, DC, where he was awarded the honor of administrative chief resident in his final year. He then further sub-specialized by completing fellowships in sports medicine at Georgetown University and in orthopedic traumatology at the University of Miami Ryder Trauma Center. At Georgetown University, Dr. Clarke served as a team physician to George Mason University Athletics. In his role as an Orthopedic Traumatologist, Dr. Clarke excels in treating high energy pelvic and acetabular fractures, complex long bone and peri-articular injuries, as well as circular ring external fixation and delayed reconstruction of severe open fractures and mangled extremities. Also, in his role as a Sports Medicine specialist, Dr. Clarke enjoys the surgical and non-surgical treatment of athletes with sports-related injuries, which include arthroscopic treatment of knee-related injuries such as ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair and cartilage restoration procedures, as well as arthroscopic treatment of shoulder-related injuries such as rotator cuff repair and labral repair.
