About
Courtyard Village
Introduction
Courtyard Village. Now that sounds like a beautiful name for a community of houses, apartment buildings, condominiumsà or an independent living community. There is indeed such a place, or rather two places, for assisted living for people over the age of 62, located in Portland and Vancouver, Washington, directly across the boundary. The philosophy of Courtyard Village is as beautiful as its name: They aim to provide senior living at affordable prices, with no buy-ins being allowed. Activities and social programs
Any place where people are meant to live for sizable lengths of time should have social activities to keep its residents entertained, and Courtyard Village is no exception. They have, indeed, one of the most extensive system of recreation of any home for senior citizens in the country. Games that are played there include bean bag baseball, dominos, bingo, card games (like bridge, pinochle and poker), mah jongg and WII bowling. In addition, they have morning exercise and take the residents on weekly visits to many of the cities' attractions, including the Oregon Zoo, the Portland Art Museum, the Spirit Mountain Casino (an American Indian gambling center in Grande Ronde, southwest of Portland), Washington Square, Lincoln City (on the northern coast. Another Indian casino is operated here) and the Japanese Gardens, which are probably the most beautiful part of the city. Family members are, of course, invited to join in the fun. Services
Apartment maintenance, expanded basic cable TV and utilities except telephone services are all provided at a reduced cost and free laundry service is available. Courtyard Village also has transportation for those who cannot otherwise move around town.
