Exams & Cleanings

Igor Ochev, DDS

DENTAL EXAM

At your initial visit, Dr. Ochev performs a comprehensive dental exam.

Examination of diagnostic X-rays: dental X-rays are essential for detection of decay, tumors, cysts, and bone loss. They also help determine tooth and root positions.

Oral cancer screening: your face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums are checked for any signs of oral cancer.

Gum disease evaluation: the gums and bone around your teeth are checked for any signs of periodontal disease.

Examination of tooth decay: tooth surfaces are checked for decay with special dental instruments.

Examination of existing restorations: the condition or your current fillings, crowns and other restorations are checked.

DENTAL CLEANING:

Following your dental exam, our registered dental hygienist performs your cleaning.

Tartar removal: tartar is hardened plaque that has been left on the tooth for some time and is now firmly attached to the tooth surface. It forms above and below the gum line and can only be removed with special dental instruments.

Plaque removal: plaque is a sticky, almost invisible film that forms on your teeth. It’s a growing colony of living bacteria, food debris, and saliva. The bacteria produce toxins that inflame the gums. This inflammation is the start of periodontal disease.

Polishing: stain and plaque that is not otherwise removed during tooth brushing and scaling are removed.
