Rene` is a licensed and board certified art psychotherapist who strongly believes in a creative therapeutic alliance that allows the client to find their way and experiment with new ways of being. She works at Red Oak Counseling in Elm Grove as a clinical outpatient art psychotherapist. She is a graduate of Mount Mary College and has been practicing for over eight years. In the beginning, her focus concentrated on working with individuals who were diagnosed with severe and persistent mental illness. This lead to her interest in parenting with a mental illness as the seriously mentally ill are usually overlooked in the system. As a result, Rene shifted her work and began her two year journey with the Mental Health Association in Milwaukee County as the Director of Support Services, during which time she developed a curriculum for parents with a mental illness that is both flexible and creative. Currently, Rene` focuses her practice on the care of children and adults in individual, couples, and family sessions. Her areas of interest and experience include mental health concerns, nutrition, pain/cancer counseling, bereavement, self-esteem, trauma/abuse counseling, parenting with a mental illness, and facilitating attachment during the adoption process.
