OPA is a joint psychiatric practice with James Severa and his wife Julie Otten, both board certified psychiatrists, who see all ages for general problems of all kinds in mental health. OPA includes mental health counselors who work with our doctors all together on site. Dr Severa expands his practice to include treatmentment problems and investigates all possible angles as to why a patient has failed to respond to the usual therapies. Possible complications to response to conventional therapies may be as simple as B12 deficiency in patients as young as 18 monthes to the elderly, Leptin suppressing TSH and causing metablic slowdown, Reverse T3 adding to fatigue and depression and fibro pain, Vit D deficiency causing the Winter Blues, mild Addisons causing a whole range of mental health and physical symptoms often ignored in general medical/psychiatric practice. Many moody patients have had all or most of their migraines eliminated with Dr Severa's treatment of their mood disorder. Ocassionally patients with trouble controling their seizures are found to have simple complications of specific nutritional or vitamin deficiencies. Dr Severa believes it's a psychiatrist's responsibility to screen for medical problems possibly missed by their primary care providers and which may be influencing mental health complaints. Now solely in private office practice, Dr Severa and Dr Otten together have over 45 years of hospital experience in combination with effective office care.
