This place is ALL about the MONEY!!! my Maltese puppy was struck by a car and had a broken pelvis, which they weren't able to do the complicated surgery on and said I needed a specialist and the only ones who he could reccomend were in Ohio, one a Pvt. practice and the other at Ohio State who charged $8,000 and $6,500 respectively (surprisingly enough the vet degree he had hung on his wall was from Ohio State. He said that because my lil boy had a few extra baby teeth that he probably came from a puppy mill and called him a "genetic lemon"!!! saying he probably wasn't worth spending the money for the surgery on and that he could "set me up" with a couple good breeders instead and Suggesting I put him to sleep and get a newer model! -like my baby boy was a damn car or something to be discarded and replaced. I LOVE MY DOG AND WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HIM...even if he is a SO CALLED "genetic lemon"!!! When I first took him there they said they would need to keep him there for a few hours and give him some meds to put him asleep so they could take the X-rays needed, I asked the girl at the desk if she needed any kind of a deposit and she told me no. As I was pulling out she came running out of the building, flagging me down as I was about to pull out and apologizing about needing a $100 deposit (like I wouldn't be back for my baby boy cause he was injured). When I went back for him a few hours later and was informed about his condition, and the Dr's opinions on it, I was charged $475.00 for the X-rays, pain medication, and this so called advice of his! After taking my boy home I began calling around looking for someone closer to do the surgery on him and had to send them copy's of his X-rays which they charged me $15.00 for each place I needed them faxed to, IN ADVANCE. Long story short, I found an amazing 24hr vet hospital in State College, Pa that had staff on hand to take care of him 24/7 (and this happened over a thanksgiving holiday), had a webcam so I could check on him any time day or night, kept him comfortable and often kept him company and even hand fed him WARM food!!! ...and all for around $4,000 ...almost half of what the vet there quoted me. My lil baby boy had the surgery, two plates and several screws in his pelvis, and made a full recovery. When this happened he was only about 6mos old and could fit in the palm of my hand from nose to butt with room to spare. Now, he is full grown with no ill effects from his unfortunate accident. 😊 I'm not saying this place is incompenant, just uncompassionate (though that only applies to the Dr. as the staff there is both kind and compassionate). I would not take my dog there for primary care both due to their vets lack of compassion as well as their extremely high prices. At the same time, in an emergency situation I would not hesitate a moment before taking my lil boy there.
