First visit was with Dr. Bl.... Very experienced and good! I just took guardianship of a 17 yo. We had issues with sexual activity, ADHD, OCD etc... he is turning 18 yo soon so I put boundaries and limits on visits with the GF for many reasons. Dr. Bl... supported my decisions and my 17 yo calmed down and was on such good behavior for the past month. WELL yesterday we went to one of the counselors!!! S..... She had no notes from Dr. Bl..., yet sat there and told us how they all work as a team. she had no history on the sexual activity. So I informed her ONE of the issue of his turning 18. HER response was "well lets bring some reality into this, the girl is 16 yo and that is the legal age of consent!.... As the parent I had to inform her of all the un-necessary risk ( unplanned pregnancy, STD, and yes statutory rape). the GF herself was in counseling and has many issues. I told her how Dr. B.... supported me and she replied "well Dr. B.... only spends 20 mins with these teens and I spend a lot more time with them and I know when they are pushed against a wall they may take drastic action"!!!!! OMG my 17 yo spewed out fabrications I had never even heard before and jumped right on her train. We digressed and all the hard work of the past month was down the drain. Tonight was another screaming F you and F this match and we are back to square one. Did I mention I have been in medicine for 33 years and was Associate Chief Nurse of Mental Health Division for the VA. I ran a psych hospital for adults and teens too! I do not claim to be an expert , but I do know that this counselor did no assessment of the issues prior to making her foolish statements. I regret ever going there! I am physically exhausted and seriously thinking I can not raise this child. that one visit caused more hardship and heartache than one could imagine. She has done so much damage. Her advise as I was leaving was to take a heater away from him that he had left on when he went to school. Really take the heater away! But I should be real when discussing his sexual activity and that his GF is the age of consent!!!!! I scheduled my 17 yo and myself to see another provider. One who specializes in ADHD and is much closer to home. ugggggg
