Avoid this man unless you want everything to get worse. He is somewhat clueless about the big issues (addiction staring him in the face) and his only true assistance is to suggest "date nights". Addiction is complicated and destructive and as a recovering addict you'd think he'd have some great insight, wisdom or action plan as a form of counseling. Nope. He's extremely sympathetic to addiction, to the extent that boundaries come OFF - regardless of the problems the kids are having, the spouse is having. He's big on positively reinforcing the addict and can not spot a lie if you paid him . He was duped over and over and over again and even when the addict told him he duped him, he had nothing to say. He really has nothing to say ever.

Exceptionally poor diagnostic skills, incapable of recognizing incompetent parenting and/or incompatible relationships. His advice, on the rare occasion that is provided, is so amateurish it makes one question whether he has any formal training in marriage/family therapy at all.

Caveat Emptor.
