A family member has had several stays in the medical rehab unit at Brandel Care Center in recent years. While the facility is clean and the staff is cheerful, we have experienced numerous concerns with both the quality of the nursing and social work staff. Our loved one was rushed back to the hospital from Brandel experiencing life threatening internal bleeding -- it soon became very clear to all of us that there were clear signs this emergency days before an ambulance was called. While our family member remained in intensive care, she was barraged by visits from the outreach coordinator (marketing director) for Brandel, who had no interest in her condition other than to ascertain when or if she would be returning to this facility. There is a strong possibility that the aforementioned outreach coordinator passed herself off as a family member to a resident physician and gave our parent totally inappropriate information regarding discharge. In addition, the patient was released to the care of an elderly sister with questionable judgment regarding safety. Adult children were not contacted about this matter, nor were they asked to attend a discharge planning meeting. Brandel Care Center seems to be a revolving door for social workers and discharge planners -- our parent has worked with two temporary social workers placed by an outside agency in the past several months.
The staff at Brandel are SO caring, day in and day out. My husband, Paul, was there for three years and I went almost every day to visit and to help him with his meal. Of course, when I couldn't go, they were very willing to do that for him also. I learned so much myself from watching them care for Paul and others there. They're so helpful and try hard to be accommodating. I plan on telling everyone I know about how fabulous this nursing home is. Its really a place you can trust.
