I have a twenty-year-old ragdoll cat. She has been going to Arbutus Animal Hospital since she was 2 months old. The veterinarian has been removing plaque and tartar from my kitty's teeth since she was a kitten. I called today to schedule an appointment to have the plaque removed from my baby girl's teeth and to have her claws trimmed. I was shocked by their response. They told me that my kitty has to many problems, and they are afraid that even trimming her claws will be too stressful. UNBELIEVABLE! Angel has been getting her claws trimmed before I purchased her from the breeder. It does not stress my girl out to get her claws trimmed! Arbutus Animal Hospital cleaned Angel's anal sacs and did a blood draw for my kitty in June 2024 when Angel was 19 years and 10 months old. They were not worried about her stress level then!

Angel has had CKD since the age of 15. However, Dr. Luke never told me this. I figured it out in January 2024 when Angel was 19 years old. Her serum phosphorus level reached 6.5 and her SrCr was 2. 1. I researched CKD in cats and discovered that Angel had stage 2 CKD. In March 2024, under Dr, Luke's care, her SrCr increased to 3.4, putting her in stage 3. I started Epakitin for Angel. The vet told me to give just a sprinkle of the supplement. He never returns my calls. One of his techs told me that he does not recommend Epakitin until the animal's serum phosphorus reaches 8! When my girl's serum phosphorus level was 6.5, I used my own instincts and gave Angel the recommended dose of Epakitin. Angel's serum phosphorus level has been in the normal range ever since. I have read extensively about CKD in cats. It is advised to have their BP checked periodically. Dr. Luke has never checked Angel's BP. I asked Angel's new vet, who specializes in cats, to check Angel's BP. It was 220 in July!! Angel's new vet placed Angel on amlodipine. Now, Angel's BP is 120, which is excellent. The only reason why I wanted Dr, Luke to remove plaque from Angel's teeth is because Angel's new vet does professional cleaning only, which requires anesthesia. I am afraid to give my 20 yr old cat anesthesia. I know Dr. Luke can do this without anesthesia He knows Angel's disposition and has been caring for Angel's teeth for almost 20 years. I asked to speak to Dr. Luke. I was told that I cannot.

In Mach 2024, Arbutus Animal Hospital recommended that I take Angel to Internal medicine. They told me that senior cats may need the care that only internal medicine can give. I did call to make an appointment. However, I did not like that they said they would keep my girl for hours without me present. This is when I found the cat vet who has been a gem. I found a dental vet who works with geriatric pets. I had to pay $135 for a deposit for a consultation fee. All they do is work with elderly cats, so I have comfort in this. Angel will need anesthesia, but I feel better knowing that this is all they do. Alternatively, I may have to learn how to care for Angel's teeth myself. If you have a senior pet, do not go to Arbutus Animal Hospital!!

I have been a client for over 15 years. Dr. Suh used to be a good vet. Apparently he no longer has the time to thoroughly examine your pet. His prices used to be very reasonable, but have increased significantly in recent years. I think we are paying for the updated decor. The veterinary care has definitely suffered. Dr. Suh no longer has the time to do a thorough examination, nor does he discuss the pets treatment.
He leaves that up to his vet techs. Used to really love Arbutus Veterinary Hospital. No longer a fan. As far as being inexpensive - you get what you pay for!!!!
