Several years back, Dr. Stuer conducted himself unprofessionally--and unethically--and I will never forget the horror of that day.

At the time, I contacted the Complaints and Investigations Division of the Maine Department of Professional Regulation and spoke to Nicolas Pesut, the complaints officer, who stated that I had "a good reason to complain here." I began gathering records and filling out paperwork - but because I was so consumed with grief at the time over the death of my pet, I didn't go through with the complaint. I regret that now. Had I followed through, Stuer would have been investigated and possibly reprimanded, and other pets and owners may have been spared what my cat and I went through.

Anything I have enclosed in quotation marks is exactly what was stated. My partner and I documented word-for-word at the time of the incident.

I brought my cat in to Stuer's office with symptoms of poor appetite, swollen abdomen, and occasional vomiting. Stuer examined her abdomen and stated in a callous tone of voice, "This is a very sick animal." He then inserted a needle into or near the vicinity of her abdomen and stated that she had a tumor from which blood was leaking and added, uncaringly, "she will be dead by tomorrow."

Bawling uncontrollably, and in horror--both at the condition of my pet and at the inhuman attitude projected by Stuer--I asked desperately whether any tests or other procedures could be conducted. Stuer impatiently replied that he could "open her up" for an exploratory exam but that he had other patients to see first. So I took my cat and went out to the car to compose myself. I then called another vet, who said he could see her immediately. So we hurried to the other vet, where they conducted a full spectrum of testing. My cat did not have a tumor. She had pancreatitis... and hung on for 3 days while they tried to save her.

POSTMARKED THE DAY AFTER MY VISIT TO STUER was a hand-written note, written and signed by Stuer, demanding immediate payment for services rendered! The note was highlighted in yellow.

Possibly he has changed? Evolved somehow over time? But one wonders how he could have earned his veterinary license in the first place. Never before, or since, have I met such a heartless human being as Stuer.
