Hospice is all about living and taking advantage of every moment life has to offer. When medical care cannot offer a cure, hospice provides patients and their families comfort, care and support. Hospice is not a place, but rather a philosophy of care that focuses on treating the person and not the disease. It neither hastens nor postpones death, but rather affirms each day, enhancing quality of life for the person coping with a life-limiting illness.
I have interacted with the Groves Community Hospice twice; once for my aunt in a nursing home and once for my father in his home. The staff was very caring in both instances. They communicated with me constantly and were always available at any time of the day or night. As my father's primary home caregiver, they literally were my guardian angels. Wtihout them I never would have been able to fulfill his wish of dying in his own home. I never had any problems reaching them by telephone. There was always someone available to answer and make sure we received whatever we needed, including middle-of-the-night calls. They receive an A+ from me. I will always be grateful to them.
