Day Staff CNA and Nurses are okay-some are excellent. OT/ PT staff are excellent. Night CNA and nurses don't follow protocols for handling patients. Father was there for 20 days and had several bad experiences. Father is vegetarian and several meals they gave him a pureed muffin and a plop of green vegetable. He lost 10 pounds in two weeks and several times we had to go buy food for him. A night nurse gave him ham sandwich and he ate it and threw up the entire next day causing him to not get meds and it delayed recovery. Night nurses dropped part of his medicine and kicked it under the cart. Niece saw it and pointed it out. She didn't replace the medicine and didn't pick up the pill. Father was recovering from back surgery and was made to sit in a wheelchair from midnight to 6 AM because he wouldn't stay in bed. They also lost track of him one night and he was found at 6 AM on the patio in bare feet. Response times 10-45 minutes for nurses/CNA. One day a CNA said she'd go get someone to help her get him to the bathroom. 10 minutes later we looked out the window and she was taking a smoke break with another CNA. Don't come in on a weekend or Friday. They have "skeleton" crew and it's even worse. Know the medicines your loved one should be getting and monitor it. Meds were given incorrectly from Friday to Tuesday and the error was found when we questioned it. If your loved one has to be placed here be diligent and be ready to advocate for your loved one.
The people there are not interested in the patients, all they want is the money. To that end they will order all kinds of tests, therapy and equipement while in actuality they do nothing for the patients. The facility is not well maintained and the staff appears to be poorly educated and motivated. My father was there and when we voiced concerns they were brushed off as if of no importance. The director of nursing would not even speak with us. While I spoke with other families who were happy with the care their loved one got, I was very unhappy with the care my dad got. Grievances were filled out and nothing was done about them. Dr's were not notified of my concerns until I made an appointment with him in his office, he then addressed my concerns and my dad was transferred to another facility where he got excellant care until the day he passed away. Overall I was not satisfied at all with the care my dad got while in this facility.
