My mother was just in "Beach Terrace" for 5 days and I removed her as soon as I saw how horrible this place was. She was diagnosed with "baseline" dementia and they stuck her on the ward with people so low functioning as to be terrifying. We asked them to reevaluate but they said since she was angry they would have to wait. When my siblings visited at night the floor reeked of urine and feces. The patients roamed the halls without supervision. A male patient entered my mother's rom and lay on the bed next to hers and it was several minutes before any staff came to tell him to leave. My siblings and I were there when this occurred. They let her sit in diapers even though she came into Beach Terrace still using the toilet on her own. She had no therapy and as we were putting her into the car, a pill fell off of her sweater. Either she had not taken it or she had missed her mouth - either way - it is unacceptable that neither a nurse nor aide made certain her medication was taken properly.
This facility must be akin to what Bedlam was like all those years ago. I hope I can find another assisted living center where they actually CARE for their patients and have rehab and therapies. That is if my mother is not too traumatized.
