I was in the Adult Unit of Vista Hospital for 10 miserable days for depression. The place was old and smelled of urine. Some of the staff were friendly and treated you with respect. But others did not. They treated you like children, with little or no rights. At times it felt like a prison with absolutely nothing to do. The recreation that was available once a day was a joke. The food was of very low quality. (I'm a diabetic and they gave no consideration to this at all.) There were even a few cases while I was there that people got sick off of the food. The cleaning staff kept it as clean as they could, they worked hard. But the carpet was so old.. it actually would stick to your shoes at times. I never went anywhere without shoes or slippers. As for the doctors and therapists. They were not on top of things.. sometimes people were there for days until they saw a professional for their specific needs. They all had weekends off so the place went to crap during the weekend. And because one day feels like four.. it was horrible on the weekend. There were suppose to be groups that helped you overcome whatever your troubles were. Either alcohol, drugs, depression etc.. But the groups were sporadic if any at all. I did get the medication I needed and my doctor.. Nurse practitioner for my doctor actually.. was very nice and understanding. But I was very,,very glad to go home on day 10 of my stay.
