Following residency he was an Assistant and then Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Yale University School of Medicine, and then Associate Professor, Professor, and Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina.
