My child was face up with the cord around her neck. He delivered her with something called Kielland forceps after inserting a car jack type device into my vagina. No discussion, no options, no informed consent. We were told in childbirth class only outlet forceps would be used if necessary. He incised my rectal muscle. The only time he spoke to me was right before the delivery to tell me there were students in the hall and could they come watch. The first dr. broke my water with a fetal monitor without any explanation, I thought she was going to do an exam. The nurse told me the baby maybe lying on the cord the heart dropped a little at times, Then they placed an oxygen mask on my face later in the morning. again told "just being extra cautious". I over heard Montgomery telling the nurse he knew all along it was a nuchal cord. I ask what that was and he turned his back and she told me "the cord was around the neck". I felt like i had been in a vacuum all day, at that point I felt even more removed. I overheard him say "turning the head" during the first of two forceps maneuvers. So now I am trying to get my head around how much trouble my baby was had been in and just how long she lay inside me face up and the cord around her neck. After the delivery he proudly showed me how he had only nicked her ear. I felt like I am going to throw up. I did go for my 6 weeks exam, trying to tell myself I was over emotional about the whole thing and I had expected too much, its only important that she seems to be healthy. The pelvic exam was first, I was hoping to be able to to see him with my clothes on first, but I again did it their way. He came in I lay back and during the exam my whole body started to shake, he seemed to take forever. After he was finished the nurse helped me up and immediately left. leaving me alone with him. He popped his gloves off, stepped behind me and ask me if had lived through it. I said yes and he left. I dressed and waited about 15 mins., the shaking would not stopped so I left. After some time passed I requested my records and was given the run around at first but finally succeeded. That's when I learned about the type of forceps used. I looked them up on the internet. They are very controversial among OB's and some dr's even think they should be outlawed because too many injuries occur and this does not take into account the cord being around her my baby's neck. The emotional trauma to the mother is also well known factor against their use. I have watched several U-Tube videos of Kielland type deliveries there is never a car jack type device involved. Childbirth is a game or joke to this man. He never did what was best for my baby or for me. I equate his type of care to strapping my child into the back seat of his car and driving around drunk all afternoon, pulling every stunt known to man, only to stop at the end of the day, yank my child out of the back seat and to say" Look she is OK and I got my thrills too!"
