Dr. Roberto Cavalieros is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and eye surgeon who is committed to providing exceptional care to his patients. With more than 12 years of medical and surgical experience, he is highly skilled in the treatment of eye disease. Dr. Cavalieros performs cutting-edge surgery including cataract extraction with premium intraocular lens implants and anterior segment laser surgery.
Prior to joining Lexington Eye Associates, Dr. Cavalieros was in private practice in New York City and taught surgery as an attending physician at New York Eye & Ear Infirmary and affiliated hospitals. Dr. Cavalieros was also one of the Infirmarys select team of surgeons on the Eye Trauma Service, New York City's premier specialty facility dedicated solely to the care of the severely injured eyes and related tissues.
A native of Venezuela, Dr. Cavalieros received a bachelors degree, cum laude, in Electrical Engineering and a masters degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Florida. He then completed his medical studies at the University of Florida College of Medicine, where he received the Samuel D. Harris Award for Immunology and Rheumatology. After his internship at the University of New Mexico, where he also worked with the Indian Health Service, Dr. Cavalieros completed his ophthalmology residency at the prestigious New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. He then spent a year as an international fellow and staff ophthalmologist with the non-profit organization ORBIS International teaching surgical techniques, treating patients, and performing consultations on a flying eye hospital in more than ten developing countries.
Dr. Cavalieros is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology and a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is fluent in Spanish and French and lives in Newton, MA with his family. In his free time, Dr. Cavalieros enjoys astronomy, bird-watching and hiking.
