I had anterior hip replacement by Dr. Weber. My Hospital stay went well, but after 2 weeks I lost the ability to walk without a limp. The device that was used subsided more than the accepted amount. I was given a wedge to put in my shoe but that did not help, the deficit was too great. I had to have another surgery to revised the first. Again the Hospital stay went well. After 2 months the limp returned and my mobility decreased. Dr. Weber continued to tell me he did not know why I had pain and increased limp. I was x-rayed several times in his office. After 6 months of getting worse I reached out for a second opinion. I was scheduled for surgery and was told not to walk without a walker the x-ray showed a very loose joint with no bone growth. When I approached Dr. Weber, he admitted he had misread my films. I was going to need a third surgery, but not urgently. In less than 24 hours I was walking and my hip dislocated. It was relocated, I was sent home to prepare for the surgery and dislocated a second time. I was then admitted to Northwestern on complete bed rest due to the unstable hip. I had to have a total reconstruction of my hip the loose pieces over the 6 months had eroded my pelvis and Plates were inserted so a new prosthesis could be placed. I had to have an Osteotomy ( breaking of my leg) to remove the original piece that had subsided. I was no weight bearing for 6 weeks then progressed slowly over the next 6 months. I can no longer alternate legs on the stairs and I walk most of time with a cane. I have special shoes to aid in the length difference.
