Had a mole removed and analyzed from Tanana Valley Clinic. The said they did not know how much the bill would be. Due to our long drive we decided the cost could not be excessive for such a simple procedure. The 1st bill arrived from Tanana Valley Clinic - $554. I thought this was the total cost and felt it was excessive but paid it. A 2nd bill arrives a few weeks later from the Lab - $ 276.00. I was surprised that there was an additional cost so I had a long talk with the Financial Manager at the Hospital. She was very nice. Because I make less that $200,000 a year I got an automatic 25% discount. This made no sense to me but I paid it. Then over ONE MONTH later a 3rd bill arrives from the Pathologist, “Pathology Consultants” for $250. By now I am furious at this entire system and how it is run. There was no explanation of results or services rendered on this bill. It stated “Tissue Exam (that’s it)” which is what I thought the Lab did. The doctor’s name was even vague; “Cannon MD”. I received the Lab results from the Lab so we were shocked that this bill came at all. We tried calling Dr. Cannon’s office several times wanting to know what the Doctor did that cost $250. They did not try to cooperate and made no effort to work with us to try to resolve this bill except turn us over to the collector agent. No wonder there is so much waste, fraud, and abuse within the medical system; one can bill without having to justify the bill, the services, or the amount. *** I recommend that unless there is no other choice; make sure this physician is not used. This operation “Pathology Consultants and/or Dr. Scott Cannon you can not trust. ***
