Mark Sapienza is a Board Certified Internist and Gastroenterologist/Hepatologist. As a gastroenterologist he treats a wide variety of gastrointestinal disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease, peptic ulcer disease, hepatitis and liver disease. In addition to colonoscopy and endoscopy he performs ERCP, esophageal manometry, BRAVO ph testing and video capsule endoscopy. He also has undergone Orbera balloon training for treatment of weight loss and participates in the Englewood Hospital bloodless medicine program.
He earned his bachelors degree at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, PA and his medical degree at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his internship, residency and fellowship training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia.
In 2002 Dr. Sapienza joined the practice that is now the Gastroenterology Group of Northern NJ. At that time he also joined the medical staff at both Englewood Hospital and Holy Name Hospital. He is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association, American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA).
He has served as President of the New Jersey Gastroenterology and Endoscopy Society from 2007 to 2008 and was recognized as a TOP DOCTOR in NJ Monthly in 2008, 2013 and 2016 and yearly in Bergen County's 201 Magazine Health Issue from 2012 thru 2016. In 2015 he was named Physician of the Year at Englewood Hospital and in 2016 was named a Top Doctor in New York Magazine and Castle Connolly's Top Doctors. He served as Chair of the Englewood Hospital Credentials Committee in 2013 and is currently Chief of Gastroenterology at Englewood Hospital and Vice President of the Englewood Hospital Medical Staff.
