Specialist in bronchiectasis. Major help in dealing with congested breathing. Tested frequently for varieties of pathogens in my case/lungs. She also runs a major database on bronchiectasis patients here and in Europe.

I met Dr. O'Donnell twice, after she had been treating my mother for years. She seemed nice and cordial. My mother had been in Dr. O'Donnell's care for years, for a rare lung disorder. After she stopped responding to medications for the initial disorder, my mother finally gave in and had a surgical biopsy that revealed she had lung cancer. Though the surgery was at Georgetown, where Dr. O'Donnell is on staff, she never once came by to visit my mother when she was in the hospital and did not even call. Calls to her office leading up to the surgery and after often took a very very long time to be answered. When my mother passed away just six months after she was diagnosed, both my father and I--not knowing that the other had done so--each called Dr. O'Donnell's office to let them know my mother had passed away. No one ever called us to relay condolences.

I understand that doctors work very hard, that they have a lot of patients and that there is a lot of paperwork they have to do. I don't blame Dr. O'Donnell for my mother's illness or death.I don't expect doctors to be superhuman. But I do expect all doctors--not just oncology specialists--who have patients with terminal diseases to be a little more human and responsive. If the workload doesn't allow for that, than maybe they should accept less patients. I would not recommend this doctor or this practice.
