Summit Medical Rehabilitation, P.C. provides outpatient services to individuals with all levels of disability. Hospital consultations on inpatients at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center are also available. Comprehensive rehabilitation is coordinated for individuals with severe disabilities such as Spinal Cord Injury, Traumatic Brain Injury or Stroke and these same clinical skills are applied to managing more limited disabilities such as neck or back pain in the outpatient setting. Special expertise in areas such as Spinal Cord Injury rehabilitation include management of multiple clinical issues in the context of the individual and his/her specific goals. These may include management of neurologic complications, urologic (bladder) issues, gastrointestinal (bowel) issues, skin problems, wheelchair/seating needs, bracing/orthotic prescriptions, and treatment of musculoskeletal injuries/pain. A wide variety of approaches are utilized depending on the individuals needs. These include working with a multidisciplinary rehabilitation team that may include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy, Recreation Therapy, Rehabilitation Psychology, Nutrition, and Rehabilitation Nursing. The individual, their family, primary care physician, and other specialists are also integral members of this team in complicated cases. Medications are utilized when they may facilitate progress in rehabilitation and complimentary approaches are also integrated into a plan of care. By defining specific short and long term goals, a rehabilitation plan can be established to meet these individualized goals and maximize functional recovery. The same clinical approaches used in complex cases leads to optimal outcomes in less severe disabilities. Neck pain, back pain, and musculoskeletal injuries are approached with individual attention to the patients needs and goals. The wide varienty of clinical tools utilized for the patient with complex issues can also be tapped to meet the specific rehabilitation needs of a patient with any level of disability.
